The boys nail it in Frankfurt after Tor Orford and Nicky Roper run strongly in Amsterdam and Rome

With apologies to ‘Queen’, ‘I want to break three for the first time (this time I know it’s for real!)’ is the goal of so many marathon runners and Stuart Woods, after coming very close in the past, finally knows that feeling following his 2 hours 58 minute PB in Frankfurt last weekend.  He joined a pretty select club as Lee Barber (2 hours 52)  also came in below the 3 hour mark.  Special congratulations, too, to Rob Rogers who ran an impressive 2 hours 57 on his debut over 26.2 miles.  Dave Johnson ran a 28 minute PB while not to be outdone, Jeremy Ashdown ran a 29 minute PB.

There were pretty impressive performances all round as a group of 8 Flyers gave up the chance to run in our cross-country fixture in favour of a long weekend away in Germany,  As usual with marathon training, there were setbacks along the way right up to race day itself, but everyone acquitted themselves well and did the club proud.

A week earlier Tor Orford ran strongly to finish the Amsterdam Marathon in 4 hours and 1 minute, while at the same time Nicky Roper was weaving her way through the streets of Rome to finish her half-marathon in the shade of the Colosseum,

Nearer to home, many congratulations to Aimee Spaull who made her marathon debut in York with a highly commendable 4 hours 30 minutes.

To end with another tortuous ‘Queen’ reference, it’s clear everyone involved enjoyed ‘A Day at the Races’.
