Before handing over the trophy on 9th February, Bill explained his choice of winner for 2018 in these words,
“How many of you know that Britain’s fastest ever 1500m and Marathon runners have all been seriously good cross-country runners? (Answer :- Mo, Mo, Laura Muir and Paula).
Cross country is a great basis for all aspects of running and many are doing it without realising, in park runs and charity events. The University of East Anglia cross country and park run use the same hilly course.
Most of our marathoners are doing the Winter League series. It’s great from an observer and coach’s point of view, to watch improvement, determination, style and sometimes joy.
In Sunday league to watch Andrew relax and switch on cruise control when his rivals can’t hold the pace. Daisy totally focussed relentlessly dashing her rivals hopes. We have won all three races so far for men and ladies – dare we hope for a clean sweep.
To see Adam smiling and thanking marshals and helpers – think how good he could be if he concentrated more. David and Viv too, ever present and totally committed. Above all seeing the 70+ runners from the Club of all ages from 6 to 76. Great running, great runners, great club.
Last year’s award went to one of our graduate junior runners Oscar who represented the County and the Club at national level.
This year’s outstanding winner has established more records than any other which will last longer and are a unique record of the Clubs runners and achievements.
